The French superstar opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a composed 'Panenka' penalty after Arda Güler was fouled inside the box. However, Leganés responded instantly as Diego García capitalized on defensive lapses to level the score just a minute later.

Leganés shocked the Santiago Bernabéu crowd before halftime when Dani Raba slotted home an Oscar Rodríguez assist, giving the underdogs an unexpected 2-1 lead.
